For the past two months, we’ve been hard at work on our little Nemo’s nursery. I’ve known for years that I wanted our first baby’s nursery to have a Peter Pan theme. It is one of my favorite Disney films and, I think, especially suited to a child’s imagination. Brandon came up with some preliminary designs, and we got to work. All of the paintings in the room are on canvas– that way, if we have a second baby in this house, the Peter Pan things will go with Nemo to a larger bedroom, and the nursery can be redesigned for the new little bit.
First, the door
Which, like a lot of things, is an idea I found online and promptly passed on to Brandon for creation.
You step inside the nursery– into Neverland
Some closer shots of the details
The crib
Guarded by a special friend
Over on the dresser, the Crocodile stands by the changing pad (on the lookout for Captain Hook)
On the other side of the crib is a rocking chair we found on Craigslist. The seller was so excited that we were getting it specifically for our nursery that she refused our money! It’s nice and sturdy too.
(Tar Heel Mickey doesn’t quite fit the Neverland theme, but we couldn’t resist)
These shelves store toys, various accessories, and all of Nemo’s books
I’m saving this photo frame for a birthday picture of the three of us.
On to the canvases! All Brandon’s paintings
First, Peter and the Darling children are flying in from London
Lurking by the rocking chair is Skull Rock
Nearer the crib, Captain Hook and his pirates are sailing the seas
And sprinkling a bit of pixie dust over the sleeping baby, a sparkly Tinker Bell
Who is outlined with special paint, so that when the lights are out…
She glows in the dark!
Brandon also made a framed piece that is an abstract version of the characters
An amazing stone that a friend gave us acts as the doorstop (which we truly needed, because the door swings shut of its own accord)
And the last piece, maybe our favorite, is a hanging lamp Brandon repurposed
It was the fixture in the entryway of our house when we moved in. It was kind of ugly the original way, and too low from the ceiling. Brandon and tall guests had to duck under it. Brandon rewired it and strung it from a length of chain, then lined the inside of the glass with a burlap-like canvas
It also houses the second iteration of a pixie friend
All that’s missing is a cuddly new Huffman.
This has got to be one of the most adorable nurseries ever… What a lucky little one to have such creative parents! I especially loved the burlap detail on the lantern and the glow-in-the-dark outline of Tinkerbell!! I happened to just stumble across your blog as I was “getting lost in WordPress”. I’m so excited for you and your husband to meet your little one!
Thank you! The glow-in-dark paint blew me away, that was my husband’s idea too. I’m lucky to be married to someone artistic. We can’t wait, under a month left for us!
Oh my goodness. Such great ideas! My daughter is a big Peter Pan fan and would absolutely flip over a room like this. Great job!
Thanks! I hope our little bit enjoys Peter Pan as much as I do. It’s so cute though, how could you not 🙂
Seeing this made me cry, you two did such a beautiful job. I can’t wait to snatch up little “Nemo” and just smother with kisses and hugs, just like I do with Brynlee!
You two did an amazing job! Love it!
